| 5 more days left. Then, the past few years of dreaming about our trip to Brazil will begin their real-world drama. Many preparations have been made. We took Portuguese classes, met and spent time with more Portuguese-speaking people than we knew existed in Portland, attended the OMSI exhibit on the Amazon (twice), conducted extensive internet research on the customs and culture and historical background of Brazil, flipped through pages of travel guides at Powells, BORDERS, Barnes and Noble, listened to Portuguese CDs while driving, and learned at least 10 Portuguese songs to play on the guitar and sing (thanks to Kam's mom, JOY). It has all been part of the learning/preparation process. In a way I feel like our trip to Brazil began in January. That was when the door opened for feet to walk through. I wish I knew of a way to post lots of pictures on the web when we return, but I'm not that web savvy yet. I just know I can upload to Costco and then e-mail people to go and look at my pics. :) If you know any great ideas as far as xanga goes, please, share. | | |
| ONE week left before we leave for South America. A week seems like a long time but already the remaining 7 days have filled up with lists of "to-do" items for us. Sunday evening, yesterday, and today I have spent painting and cleaning our unit next door. Our new neighbors move in tomorrow so everything has to be ready by tonight. It was a last minute surprise to us that we had to paint everything (long story), but it is all working out and "under control." Thankfully, I wasn't scheduled to work this week. I planned to pick up shifts at the hospital, but it looks like the only things I will picking up this week are 50 lb paint buckets, ladders, and cleaning products! Tomorrow, I will start in our house. It is a little sketchy to say the least! Then, to the packing for the trip and last minute errands. The day after we get back I will start nursing school orientation. So, in addition to all of the normal preparations, I have to have all of my paperwork, medical tests/info, and supplies together before we leave. (CLEANSING BREATH) Despite the looming lists, I'm really excited about our trip and about school and all the wonderful things that God is doing in our lives. We are so BLESSED. God has always been faithful to provide for our every need. I'm looking forward to time together with our families on Thursday night. It will be a partial goodbye/early birthday party (for me). This will probably be the first time I won't see fireworks on my birthday! Does anyone know about fireworks in Brazil? Well, I better get back to my old friend the vaccuum cleaner now and finish tidying up next door. Tchau! | | |
